JLL’s #LetsGoShopping campaign launched in May, and sparked an industry-wide conversation about the undeniable emotional tie between shopping centers and the consumers who routinely frequent them. Today, the firm launched the third installment, Summer Love, which tells the story of falling in love and the relationships made at brick-and-mortar shopping centers. Watch our Summer Love video and read Beth Faulkner’s real life, retail love story.

Marketing + Mall Cop = Love (not at) First Sight

Beth was 20 when she landed a marketing intern gig at Assembly Square Mall in Somerville, Massachusetts. Back then it was just a small enclosed regional shopping center, and Dapper Dan’s was THE hangout restaurant. Little did she know that her future husband, Kevin, was working as a mall security guard on site.

While Beth wishes she could say, “It was love at first sight,”  it took a bit of convincing. Beth and Kevin spent a fair bit of time together, becoming good friends – Kevin trying to woo her over by sending balloons. But it wasn’t until  they attended a mutual friend’s wedding that sparks flew!

Today they just celebrated twenty years of marriage and have two beautiful daughters, Olivia who is 16 and Ava is 11. Beth is still in the retail business, Kevin has moved on from being a mall cop to working for the United States Postal Service. Beth’s love advice: “Never settle. Ever”Beth Faulkner
