How do you advise clients about a market without having experienced it? That was a challenge Lovisa faced. She had several existing clients and targets based in the UK, so she left her home of Stockholm for 5 weeks to become a Londoner. Learn about her experience and how JLL helped her achieve her ambition for local market knowledge.

JLL Tenant Representation Manager Lovisa Harryzon wanted to understand the London retail market and be able to give her clients advice from first-hand experience of the UK capital. Lovisa, who has been with JLL since 2015, is based in Stockholm, Sweden, where she manages a team of Tenant Rep agents for Corporate Solutions and advises retailers looking to enter the Swedish market.

In April/ May Lovisa spent 5 weeks living and working in London, spending her evenings and weekends exploring London’s exciting retail, leisure and F&B scene.  Lovisa already worked closely with the pan-EMEA agency team, based in London, so the secondment was a great opportunity for them to introduce her to new brands, as well as meet other teams within JLL UK and the Global Retail board who visited London during her stay.

Many of Lovisa’ existing clients and targets are based in the UK so she was able to improve her knowledge of their brands and expansion plans, as well creating a target client list for her return to Sweden. Lovisa works with Swedish clients looking to expand internationally and enter the UK, so she was able to increase her knowledge of the UK market visiting shopping centres and new developments. Experiencing London first hand as a Londoner means she can tell the authentic ‘London story’ to clients in the future and has a much better understanding of how things work in the market.

Amongst the retailers Lovisa was introduced to during her time in London were ‘Kiko Milano’ and ‘Diesel’ who are both looking to expand in Sweden, and ‘Muji’ who are looking to enter the market. Since they met all three brands have been over to Stockholm for further meetings and Lovisa is currently working to secure mandates with each of them. On the F&B side Lovisa introduced Swedish restaurant ‘Beijing8’, who are looking to expand across the UK, to Ben Binns, Nisha Masson and Kelly Temple from the pan-EMEA and UK retail team.

Speaking about her experience Lovisa said “Spending time in the JLL London office was a great opportunity for me get a broader picture of JLL as a business. I left London feeling inspired and full of ideas about how to further develop our services in Sweden. As retail agents we face the same challenges, so being able to share these experiences was extremely valuable. It was great to get to know the local team better and I had a fantastic time exploring such an exciting retail city.”
