Shoppers Hit the Snooze Button this Black Friday

photo1UPDATE: JLL Retail managed shopping centers report that late night Thanksgiving shopping excursions kept the crack-of-dawn shoppers in bed a little longer this morning. The mad dash to the mall was delayed, with most centers seeing an increase in traffic between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., and steady shoppers since then.

Retailers within JLL Retail managed centers are reporting bustling corridors and strong sales. Many say they’re doing better than last year, and are hitting their target goals. Anchor department stores reported particularly strong sales in housewares and shoes.

“This holiday shopping season is off to a great start! The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is six days less, and the early openings were needed for retailers; however, Thanksgiving Day deals have definitely impacted the early morning sales today. Retailers who opted to open at the centers we manage last night  are pleased with the outcome. We’ll be standing by to see what the overall weekend sales report.” – Greg Maloney, CEO of JLL Retail
